Introduction
This document explains how to recover a Cisco Catalyst 6500/6000 series switch that runs Cisco IOS® system software from either a corrupted or a missing boot loader image on the Multilayer Switch Feature Card 1 (MSFC1). This document also explains the ROM monitor (ROMmon) recovery procedure with respect to the Supervisor Engine 32 and Supervisor Engine 720.

Note: You can use TFTP/FTP in order to transfer software image files from a PC to your device. This document uses output from the Cisco TFTP/FTP Server application. Cisco has discontinued this application and no longer supports it. If you do not have a TFTP/FTP server, obtain any third-party TFTP server application from another source.

Requirements
This document assumes that your system ran the Cisco IOS Software image before the boot loader image was deleted or became corrupted. This document does not cover software conversion from Catalyst OS (CatOS) software to Cisco IOS Software, or from Cisco IOS Software to CatOS. SP (Supervisor Engine)—This is the switch component of the system and what initially used the CatOS software.

RP (route processor) MSFC—This is the router component of the system.
