关于INDGO上安装IRIX 5.3 ，格式硬盘：
   其过程和6。5的一样吗？若是生盘可以直接安装吗？

安装的过程应该是一样的,什么是生盘?只要这块硬盘没有坏就可以安装.
不过我没有indigo的机器,没有安装过.

SGI IRIX 5.3 employes the EFS filesystem.
SGI IRIX 6.5 employes the XFS filesystem.

This means that the disk-label will be different when formating the disk. Nevertheless, any good SCSI disk should work (mine are all second-hand ones previously used on Sun Microsystem machines).

Below is a record of my installing IRIX 5.3 on one of my SGI INDYs, a 133Mhz one. I also have an INDIGO R4000 which I run IRIX 6.5-17.

System Maintenance Menu

1) Start System
2) Install System Software
3) Run Diagnostics
4) Recover System
5) Enter Command Monitor

Command Monitor.  Type "exit" to return to the menu.
